David Clanachan – Commissioner of the Canadian Premier League
Clanachan was named the first Chairman and Commissioner of the Canadian Premier League (CPL) – Canada’s highly anticipated professional men’s soccer league set to debut in spring 2019.
As Commissioner, Clanachan oversees all aspect of the League along with the Canadian Soccer Business (CSB) – a new sports enterprise representing commercial assets and inventory for marquee soccer properties in Canada.
Clanachan is also the Chairman of Restaurant Brands International, Canada. He was named President and Chief Operating Officer of Tim Hortons Canada in 2014, and has more than 35 years with the brand. Clanachan was a key member of the leadership team that grew Tim Hortons into the iconic Canadian brand that it is today.
A life-long soccer enthusiast, Clanachan has played competitive and recreational soccer his entire life. Known for his “aggressive defending”, Clanachan still takes the pitch every week playing in the Burlington Soccer League.
Paul Beirne – President, Canadian Premier League
Widely regarded as one of Canada’s leading soccer executives, Beirne was one of the visionaries behind the CPL and has worked tirelessly to make the dream of a Canadian domestic league a reality.
As President, Paul oversees all logistics for the CPL including soccer operations, branding and club management. His primary focus is to ensure all elements are in place for the league’s debut in spring 2019 and its long-term success.
Beirne was formerly the Vice-President of Business Operations for Toronto FC. In 2007, Major League Soccer honoured Beirne with the prestigious Doug Hamilton Executive of the Year Award in recognition of his innovative work on TFC’s ground-breaking launch as the league’s first Canadian franchise. In addition to his work with TFC, Beirne held senior executive roles with the Toronto Raptors and Ottawa Senators, and oversaw the commercial business for the Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club in its aggressive pursuit of promotion to the English Premier League.
James Easton – Vice-President, Football Operations
As Vice President of Soccer Operations for the CPL, Easton is responsible for all on-field matters including competition standards, player management and development, officiating and scheduling. He works closely with regulatory groups to ensure all aspects of the CPL are in full compliance to FIFA, CONCACAF and Canada Soccer standards.
A longstanding champion of Canadian men’s soccer, Easton founded Rethink Management Group – where he led numerous soccer-related projects and in-depth case studies for professional soccer teams, leagues, national federations and investment groups from across the Americas and the U.K.
An exceptional midfielder, Easton represented Canada numerous times on both the youth and senior men’s national teams. He played professional soccer with the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the NASL, Dundee United FC of the SPL, and the Vancouver ‘86ers/Whitecaps FC of the USL/MLS.
In 2004, Easton was inducted into the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the 1989 Vancouver ‘86ers.
Roy Nasrallah – Vice-President, Marketing
Roy Nasrallah is responsible for sharing the story of the CPL – including putting a national spotlight on its founding clubs, athletes and Canadian soccer’s avid supporters. He has been one of the visionaries behind the league’s acclaimed branding.
An expert in sports culture, Nasrallah spent several months travelling across the country to learn about Canada’s passion for the global game. Throughout #RoyOnTheRoad, Nasrallah met with hundreds of supporters, players, volunteers, politicians and business leader who all who share a passion to build the game of soccer in Canada and create a professional league of our own.
Before joining the CPL, Nasrallah spent 15 years with Nike’s Middle-East division where he was responsible for brand vision through strategy, brand communications, digital marketing, retail marketing, visual merchandising, events and sponsorships across the key region. Nasrallah worked on several award-winning marketing initiatives including the creation of the globally acclaimed Nike Pro Hijab – the inspirational initiative was designed to inspire Middle Eastern Women to adopt and embrace a healthy, sporting lifestyle
A native of Lebanon, Nasrallah is fluent in three languages.
